This morning, Raf Simons, the new creative director for Christian Dior, made his debut at his first Christian Dior Couture Fall/Winter show in Paris. It may have indeed been the most anticipated and awaited show of this season, as many were desperate to know which direction Simmons would lead Dior in. To add more pressure to his debut, the front row was filled with high-profile fashion names like Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Olivier Theyskens, and Donatella Versace.
Believe it or not, the suspense was well worth it. By watching the show we were able to see Simons’ interpretation of Dior, as it channeled both the brand’s past, as well as its future. Raf showed that he understood the founder’s love of flowers by having the walls of the venue completely covered in them, as well as having floral patterns as apart of the collection. He took classic looks and added his own modern twist to them, by spicing them up with prevalent style trends, which can be seen with the peplum pieces. It is amazing to almost see the way that he intricately intertwined the influences of past Dior designs and what he forecasts for its’ future, creating these brilliant pieces that symbolize the now.
